Former ACICIS student, Joel Backwell (Semester 15/Aug 2002 & Semester 16/Feb 2003), completed a year of study at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta on the ACICIS Flexible Language Immersion Program.
Joel has had a very successful career in Indonesia and he currently works at The Australian Trade Commission, Austrade, in Kuala Lumpur.
AustraliaPlus recently interviewed Joel about his career in Indonesia and how language has had a big part in that.
Joel said;
“My life has became much more interesting and valuable since I learnt to speak Bahasa Indonesian. I have many friends in Indonesia and have had many unforgettable life experiences on my travels to Indonesia.”
