Creative Arts and Design Professional Practicum

Esther Winterflood was a participant in the 2020 Creative Arts and Design Professional Practicum from Murdoch University. Esther is studying a Bachelor of Creative Media. She received a $3,000 New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant to support her participation in this program.

Q: Why did you decide to undertake ACICIS’ Creative Arts & Design Professional Practicum?

I decided to take this practicum because I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to gain more experience in my field of study outside of my home country. It was a great way to experience what working at a company would be like and what they would expect of you.

Q: Did you receive a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant? If so, how did this contribute to your experience in Indonesia?

Yes, I received a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant, it contributed to my experience by helping book flights and accommodations so I can focus on my studies and work in Indonesia.

Q: How will the Creative Arts & Design Professional Practicum benefit or influence your future career?

This Professional Practicum will benefit my future career because it’s helped me understand more about the process of animation and what workers are supposed expected to do. This will help me figure out what my future company will expect of me and I will be able to fulfill it.

Q: Which organisation did you intern with? What were your roles and responsibilities?

I interned at Lanting Animation where they focused on a variety of 2D animations. I helped the company by helping illustrate a few of their scenes and they also had me work on an animation myself.

Q: How is the work culture of your host organisation different to work experience you have had in Australia?

The work culture here is quite different from Australia, the people in the studio are all very friendly and are close to one another. The studio is also located in someone’s house. In Australia, there aren’t many people that are close to one another especially between the superiors and interns, and companies in Australia are usually a lot bigger where you wouldn’t know everyone in the company while in Indonesia, they get involved with each other and it gives off a more friendly feel.

Q: Would you like to return to work in Indonesia again in the future?

If I got the chance, yes, I would work in Indonesia again in the future.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time in Indonesia?

I enjoy hanging out with friends and catching up with them since we don’t work in the same area.

Q: Favourite place to eat and favourite Indonesian food?

Favourite place to eat: Tom’s Milk
Favourite Indonesian food: Martebak

Q: Favourite Indonesian word/phrase?

Q. What places in Indonesia have you visited during your practicum so far?
