Visas.
Unsure about the visa application process? Acicis is here to help you obtain the correct visa for your study abroad experience.
Getting the correct visa.
All participants undertaking an Acicis program are required to obtain a visa for study purposes – unfortunately you cannot use a ‘visa on-arrival’ as you would for a holiday.
If the process of obtaining your visa is sounding daunting, don’t worry! Acicis is dedicated to making the process of applying and obtaining your visa a seamless experience.
On this page, we’ll talk about how the process works with Acicis. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, our team is here to help.
*Advice is subject to change
The advice is subject to change between now and the start of a participant’s chosen Acicis program. Please do not make travel arrangements prior to receiving your formal acceptance letter from Acicis. More detailed advice and information, including the visa application package, will be provided alongside your acceptance letter.
The visa application process.
STEP 1
Around one month after the Acicis application deadline, you’ll receive your application outcome via email, with a successful outcome being an acceptance letter. Along with your acceptance letter, you will also receive your visa application.
To confirm your place on the program you will need to pay the administration and visa fees via an online link (provided in your acceptance letter).
Please note that the administration and visa fees are non-refundable.
STEP 2
You’ll get around two weeks to complete the visa application, and as part of the application you will be required to submit the following:
- Bank Statement: Proof of a minimum of USD$2,000
- Travel Insurance: Policy wording and certificate of currency (note: if you are currently a university student, you may be able to get this from your university)
Submit your visa application to Acicis via an online link (provided in your acceptance letter) and we will lodge your visa application on your behalf.
STEP 3
You will be issued your visa electronically 2 – 5 days prior to your program commencement, so there’s no need to visit an Indonesian Embassy, Consulate or send your passport anywhere!
STEP 4
Once you’ve arrived in Indonesia, simply show your digital visa or go through an automatic e-gate to start your adventure!

Frequently asked questions.
Can I just use a tourist visa/visa on arrival?
No, you cannot. Because your main activity in Indonesia on an Acicis program will be studying, you must obtain a corresponding visa before you arrive in-country. Not to worry though, Acicis does this for you. After you have been accepted onto the program, you will receive a visa application package to complete with your details and Acicis lodges it on your behalf.
Can I stay in Indonesia after my program to do independent internships, volunteering, work etc.? If not, can I do it during my program?
If you want to stay in Indonesia for reasons outside your study at your host university or Acicis program, you won’t be able to do so with the visa Acicis procures for you. Instead you will need to cancel your visa, leave the country, and reenter on a new visa that’s appropriate for your new purpose for staying in Indonesia.
If you would like to continue to receive visa support from Acicis, you may like to consider completing a program that has a work placement included. You can explore what’s included in each course on the Our Programs page.
Can I travel around before and during my program with my visa?
Unfortunately you aren’t able to travel to Indonesia before your program. Once we lodge your visa application, you must not enter Indonesia as it will interfere with visa processing. Visas are usually issued close to the program start date, so it’s important that you plan to arrive no earlier than two days before your program begins. If you already have prior travel plans organised, please contact our team as soon as possible.
If you are in Indonesia on one of our semester programs, you can travel outside of your city on weekends and holidays during your program, but only once you’ve been in-country for two months. This is due to the time it takes for residency permit processing.
How long can I stay in Indonesia after my program ends with my visa?
The duration of which you can stay in Indonesia after your program ends changes depending on which course you are on. Please see the relevant details below.
Semester Programs: After your final assessments, you will have a short window of time that you can use to travel in Indonesia before needing to return to your host city to surrender your exit permit and leave the country. It’s important that you always check your latest academic calendars and immigration procedures once you arrive in country.
Practicum Programs: You can travel around Indonesia for 5-7 days after your program ends and before your visa expires.
Public Health Study Tour: You can travel around Indonesia for 5-7 days after your program ends and before your visa expires.
Indonesian Language Short Course: You can travel for 5-7 days after a 3-week session and 7-10 days after two consecutive sessions before your visa expires.
If you wish to stay longer than these periods, you’ll need to exit Indonesia and re-enter on a tourist visa.
