About UNHCR Indonesia

UNHCR is the United Nations’s Refugee Agency. While Indonesia is not a party to the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees or its 1967 Protocol, it is surrounded by countries hosting large numbers of asylum-seekers and refugees, such as Malaysia, Thailand and Australia . As a result of this, Indonesia is impacted regularly by mixed population movements and as such the Government authorizes UNHCR to carry out its refugee protection mandate and to identify solutions for refugees in the country.
