About UCP Roda Untuk Kemanusiaan

UCP Roda Untuk Kemanusiaan (Wheels for Humanity) – UCPRUK is a non-profit and independent organisation that focuses on the rights fulfillment of people with disabilities in Indonesia, especially the rights for mobility aids. UCPRUK started to implement the program in 2009, cooperated with local and national governments, and non-profit organizations or people with disabilities organizations (OPD).

UCPRUK is a forerunner organisation that introduces the importance of proper mobility aids for people with disabilities according to the mandate from CRPD Article 20 about Personal Mobility and UUD No 8 Year 2016 on Disability, specifically Article 18 on Accessibility Rights.

UCPRUK believes that mobility is a key to the empowerment and independence of people with disabilities. A person with disabilities is able to access their needs again if they are able to go out of their house and to do activities which support them to get their autonomy and life, that can start from the existence of appropriate, proper and affordable mobility aids.

Various activities to raise the government and community’s awareness about the significance of the right mobility aids for people with disabilities has become UCPRUK’s main focus since its establishment. As time goes by, the change of its understanding and awareness needs to be supported by sustainable systems. To answer such needs and challenges, UCPRUK is doing a transition program which is more focused on advocacy and rights fulfillment of people with disabilities.

Advocacy activities focus on regulations or policies arrangement, strengthening or adjustment that are “disability friendly”. Therefore, UCPRUK establishes partnerships with local and national governments to facilitate programs implementation that aims for the rights fulfillment of people with disabilities in Indonesia.
