Q: Why did you decide to undertake the ACICIS internship program?
I have always enjoyed traveling. I thought this would be great way to combine my university studies and desire to really experience Indonesias culture and business processes. I also heard great things about the ACICIS internship program, so I felt confident my time would not be waisted abroad.

The New Colombo Plan is a fantastic initiative that the Australian government has implemented. It gives everyone a bilateral chance at experiencing the Indo-Pacific area. Receiving this grant was a fantastic incentive for applying for the grant. I could’t have afforded this time away if it wasn’t for the NCP grant.
Q: Where did you live in Indonesia (Kos, homestay, hotel, rental etc.)? Any tips for prospective students on finding accommodation?
I travelled a lot during my time in Indonesia. I had the pleasure of being able to work remotely so every week I went to a new destination. Life in Indonesia is what you make of it there is so much to do and experience during the week and on the weekends. Get ready for some action-packed weekends!
Q: How have you found the academic components of this program – i.e. the language classes/seminars?
The language classes were enjoyable. I was so nervous about these classes before I left Australia but once I met the teacher I knew I was in good hands. The seminars and field trips we experienced were really informative and in-depth, giving us a great idea of what the business sector was really like internally and their bilateral efforts.

Q: How have you found the work culture of your host organisation? How is it different to work experience in Australia?
I was lucky enough to be able to work remotely while in Indonesia. I was a little hesitant at the start, as this was the first time I have had the opportunity to do so, after adjusting to the new rhythm I thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of working from where ever I wanted in Indonesia. I really enjoyed the work culture at ISA, everyone was really supportive and always willing to share information when I needed help understanding the Indonesian business sector.
Q: What are the main skills you have learnt during your internship?
To be adaptive and fluid. I realised that I didn’t always understand the direction of my research till the end, I learnt quickly to trust the team I worked for and deliver what they asked for backed up by examples of the Australian business way.
