Security Update: COVID-19 Pandemic: In-country Delivery of Programs to Recommence from August 2022
21 February 2022
In advance of the commencement of Semester 1 2022 at the majority of our Australian member universities, ACICIS would like to provide an update regarding our upcoming Winter (June-July 2022) and Semester 2 (August 2022 – January 2023) program intakes:
ACICIS is pleased to advise that we intend to resume in-country delivery of our semester-long Flexible Language Immersion Program, Development Studies Immersion Program and Indonesian Business, Law and Society Program from August 2022.
This decision follows the easing of Australian Government restrictions pertaining to international travel, the reduction in the overall level of travel advice for Indonesia and consultation with our partner universities and relevant Indonesian authorities.
Applications for these programs are now open via the ACICIS website. Applications must be submitted on or before 15 March 2022 (Flexible Language Immersion Program and Development Studies Immersion Program)/1 April 2022 (Indonesian Business, Law and Society Program).
Given the uncertain environment and increased complexity of international travel at present, ACICIS has decided to focus its relaunch of in-country semester programs in a single location (Yogyakarta). As such, the International Relations Program (delivered in Bandung) and Agriculture Semester Program (delivered in Bogor) will not be available during the August 2022 – January 2023 semester. Prospective participants studying International Relations or related fields are encouraged to consider submitting an application for the Flexible Language Immersion Program, which offers the possibility of taking some English-language subjects in Gadjah Mada University’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.
While ACICIS had initially hoped to resume in-country delivery of our Indonesian Language Short Course and Public Health Study Tour programs during the Australian Winter, there remains significant uncertainty around the practicality of short-term in-country study in Indonesia at present. This uncertainty is primarily the result of ongoing COVID-19 related visa and entry restrictions imposed by the Indonesian government (e.g. quarantine requirements), which are likely to have a far greater impact on short-term study abroad experiences.
For this reason, and following consultation with relevant partner universities, the ACICIS National Reference Group last week made the decision to cancel in-country delivery of June-July 2022 intakes of these programs. While it may be disappointing, we hope that this decision will provide certainty to prospective students and member universities in advance of our application deadlines. To offer prospective participants an alternative, ACICIS continue to deliver its full suite of award winning virtual short term programs during the winter 2022 study period:
- Agriculture Professional Practicum
- Business Professional Practicum
- Creative Arts and Design Professional Practicum
- Development Studies Professional Practicum
- Journalism Professional Practicum
- Law Professional Practicum
- Sustainable Tourism Professional Practicum
- Indonesian Language Short Course
- Public Health Study Tour
Applications for ACICIS’ upcoming virtual program intakes close on 1 April 2022 (Professional Practica)/24 April 2022 (Indonesian Language Short Course and Public Health Study Tour).
We remain hopeful that in-country short term programs will be able to resume from late 2022/early 2023. More information will be provided in advance of the commencement of Semester 2 at most Australian universities.
