About The Distillery

With our origins from Sydney, Australia, The Distillery design and craft Asia’s finest wedding and business stationery from our studio in downtown Kemang, Jakarta.

The beauty of letterpress is driven by our human curiosity to rediscover the authenticity of understated elegance.

Bespoke and crafted with care, each letterpress print offers a soft and fluffy gorgeous cotton touch. The result is a one-of-a-kind celebration on paper, which simply cannot be replicated by any other production method.

As a creative agency, The Distillery is an award-winning design, typography and illustration studio. Driven by heritage soul and modern minds, we’re obsessed with achieving joint creative and commercial objectives by intertwining the best of the old with new ideas.

As a production studio, The Distillery is one of the world’s leading modern letterpress practices. We have a mission to preserve and spread the love of letterpress around the world. In Jakarta, we offer letterpress printing, foiling, and specialty production services to individuals, couples, and organisations who love paper and tangible beauty.

We excel at designing our own, and also printing your-designed personal and corporate stationery, business cards, wedding and event invitations, coasters, tags, specialty packaging and prints.

Our studio in Kemang is equipped to offer the finest design and commercial letterpress services. We’re open to the public by appointment, so please come and visit us. We’d love to meet you, learn more about your ideas, and help you create something very special.

Letterpress Production Internship
Experience letterpress hands-on, in one of the world’s leading craft production studios.

The Distillery’s Student Internship Program is suited for students who are currently studying a tertiary design or printmaking degree and have an opportunity to complete a component of industry experience.

The program is perfect for ambitious, creatively minded juniors who are open-minded, mature and love the process of craft while working in a tight-knit team.

A rare opportunity to get involved in the full cycle of design, participants will learn and master key production components in the front and away from a computer screen, from project start to finish.

Successfully held since 2011 in Sydney, Australia, the program is industry renowned and responsible for helping launch the careers of many leaders in Australia’s specialty design, craft and letterpress industries.

  • Do you get all giddy when feeling paper stocks?
  • Are you more excited about creativity outside a screen?
  • Do you crave crafting beautiful things with your hands?
  • If so, this program is absolutely perfect for you.

Amazing Learning Opportunities
Joining The Distillery’s Production Team, you will be hands-on from day one; learning and engaging in a variety of production areas including:

  • paper stock selection
  • paper cutting and finishing
  • quality control and packaging projects
  • letterpress plate-making
  • plate setting and registration
  • hand mixing inks
  • general studio errands and management
  • cleaning the press

The Distillery is especially keen to meet juniors who have self-initiated raw talents in areas including hand-lettering, paper-crafts, and printmaking.
During the program, with your initiative, you may also have opportunities to design and produce your own range of stationery projects.

Your Suitability
Letterpress production is a highly specialised field, and not suitable for all design students. We believe that the following personal and professional qualities are necessary for maximum enjoyment.

  • high levels of initiative
  • lots of enthusiasm
  • meticulous attention to detail
  • ridiculous amounts of patience
  • very high-level of communication skills
  • the ability to be satisfied working in a team, while performing junior-level functions
  • the want and need to be politely pushed

The Distillery takes pride in striving to be our very best. With this in mind, our standards are very high and we have a positive, can-do, success-driven, open-minded studio culture. We believe that success is a decision, and since our 2011 launch in Sydney, on completion of their program, 92% of our interns have been offered permanent employment with our studio.
