About Komunitas Salihara

Komunitas Salihara is a multidisciplinary arts center that was founded on August 08, 2008 by a number of writers, artists, and journalist, and is located in the Pejaten area of Pasar Minggu in South Jakarta. It is called a “community” because it opens itself up to the public in order that they may freely enter and join in with Komunitas Salihara’s programs. Komunitas Salihara has been consistent in showing a diversity of performing arts, exhibitions, and international cultural events.

Komunitas Salihara’s mission is to facilitate and introduce a variety of art activities and different ways of thinking. The community is home to a theater space and a gallery, and is also a place in which lectures and discussions can be held. Moreover, this alternative arts center for the capital is not owned by the central government, the municipal government or any foreign embassies.

In the current era of democratization, creativity and artistic expression should not only be both free and flourishing, but also be of a decent quality. Artists must be allowed to present themselves to as wide an audience as possible. With this in mind, the presentation of high-quality artistic endeavors from both Indonesia and abroad, which is an ongoing and continuous part of Komunitas Salihara’s efforts, aims to heighten the quality of art appreciation here and enrich our artistic wealth.

Komunitas Salihara specialises in:

Multidisciplinary arts center, arts performances, literature, music, discussion, film, and dance.
