About Galeri Nasional

The National Gallery of Indonesia is a modern and contemporary art museum under the patronage of the Directorate General of Culture, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. The institution stores, collects, and exhibits artworks such as paintings, drawings, graphics, sculptures, ceramics, photography, and installation art. It has now collects approximately 1800 artworks by Indonesian and international artists. Some of them are Raden Saleh, S. Sudjojono, Basoeki Abdullah, Affandi, Hendra Gunawan, Barli Sasmitawinata, Trubus, Popo Iskandar, Ahmad Sadali, Nashar, Srihadi Soedarsono, Sunaryo, Amrus Natalsya, Hardi, Heri Dono, Dede Eri Supria, Ivan Sagita, FX. Harsono, Lucia Hartini, Iriantine Karnaya, Nyoman Gunarsa, Made Wianta, Wassily Kandinsky (Russia), Hans Hartung (Germany), Victor Vassarely (Hungary), Sonia Delauney (Ukraine), Pierre Saulages (France), dan Zao Wou Ki (China). There are artworks by artists from Sudan, India, Peru, Cuba, Vietnam, Myanmar, and others as well.

Some activities held at the National Gallery of Indonesia are exhibitions (permanent, temporary, and traveling), preservation (conservation and restoration), acquisition, documentation, seminar, discussion, workshop, film/video screening, festival, competitions, etc activities which are aimed at improving the understanding, skill, and appreciation of art. National Gallery of Indonesia also carries out research and partnership in art as well as providing education and guidance for students and public.
