About The Australian Embassy Indonesia

The Australian Embassy represents the Australian Government in Indonesia and is headed by the Ambassador, Mr Paul Grigson. It is the largest of Australians overseas diplomatic missions.

Embassy staff deal with a range of matters, including trade, diplomatic relations, two-way investment, education, defence and security cooperation and development partnerships.

The embassy hosts a number of  Australian Government departments, including the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Defence, Attorney-General, Immigration and Border Protection, Education, Agriculture and Water Resources, the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), the Australian Federal Police and the National Library of Australia. All work together to promote Australia’s interests in Indonesia.

The Embassy aims to grow and diversify trade and investment; to enhance the understanding of Indonesia in Australia; to work with Indonesia on its development priorities and as a partner in regional and global multilateral forums such as ASEAN, the EAS, IORA, the G20 and APEC.

The embassy also provides consular services for Australians living in and travelling through Indonesia. The Australian Embassy is responsible for Australian passports, entry clearances and visas to enter Australia.

The Australian Government is also represented by Consulate-Generals in Bali and Makassar.

Requirements

As a dynamic organization working in a complex environment, the Embassy is looking for interns from varied backgrounds. The Embassy is looking for interns who are:

  • talented and highly motivated

  • sensitive to, and appreciative of, difference and diversity

Students wishing to be placed at this Host Organisations are required to obtain the following in advance of their placement start date:

  • Australian Police Check or Local Police Check (if one hasn’t resided in Australia in the previous six months)

Intern Duties (Example)

Interns will be responsible for a project or work task that is meaningful to both the Embassy and the intern’s learning and development. Duties may include:

  • research and reporting on economic, political, agricultural or education issues;
  • supporting public diplomacy campaigns and events;
  • supporting finance and corporate management;
  • reporting on development outcomes; or
  • supporting the design of development interventions.

Work Hours

Unless an alternative is agreed on with your supervisor, you should anticipate working the same hours as locally engaged Embassy staff, i.e, Monday-Friday, 07.45am-4.00pm.
