Program Details

Credit Points: Recommended equivalency 25% of a full semester load (0.125 EFSTL). Actual subject weighting and academic credit awarded to be determined by a student’s home university.

Accreditation and Weighting

ACICIS assessment is based on a pass/fail basis. ‘Satisfactory’ indicates achievement justifying the successful completion (pass grade minimum) of the tour in Indonesia.

To complete the Public Health Study Tour (PHST) satisfactorily, students must complete all program components of the tour by participating in all seminars, field trips & cultural activities, discussions & presentations and by submitting the required reflective journal.

A student’s home university may retain the right to set and grade other assessment tasks related to the program. While ACICIS makes a recommendation about how much academic credit a student should be awarded for their participation in the program, it is up to individual home universities to determine their own protocols and rules for awarding academic credit to students who undertake and successfully complete the program.

Assessment Components

The following components are used to inform the PHST Leader’s student evaluation report:

1 Seminar Series 30% Attendance at, and participation in, all seminar series organised by ACICIS is expected. Evidence of familiarity for set readings will be assessed through seminar participation.
2 Field Trips & Cultural Activities 25% Attendance at, and participation in, all field trips and cultural activities organised by ACICIS is expected.
3 Group Discussions & Presentations 25% Students to discuss national and urban health issues with Indonesian undergraduate public health students and deliver two group presentations to fellow students and staff.
4 Reflective Journal 20% Three reflective journals to be submitted to the PHST Tour Leader at the beginning of the tour, mid-tour and at the end of the tour. Evidence of familiarity with set readings will be assessed through reflective journal writing.

Assessment Documents

Upon completion of the program, ACICIS will provide a student’s home university with the following document:

  • PHST Leader’s Student Evaluation Report: The PHST Tour Leader provides a report outlining a student’s academic performance and involvement in the components of the tour. The report is based on the Tour Leader’s contact with a student throughout the course of the program and on a final exit interview. In accordance with standard ACICIS practice, overall student performance will be assessed only on a “satisfactory/unsatisfactory” basis (equivalent to “ungraded pass / fail”). A student’s home university retains the right to require and grade further assessment tasks, including a portfolio or reflective diary summarising the student’s in-country experience.

These assessment documents will be sent electronically (or by post if requested) from the ACICIS Secretariat in Perth within six weeks of a student’s completion of the tour. The home university may choose to award a grade or an ungraded pass/fail on the basis of these documents and any additional home university assessment requirements for the tour.
